Gloria Tronel
Soprano
The coloratura soprano Gloria Tronel made a remarkable debut at the Paris
National Opera in 2024, portraying the demanding role of Leticia Meynar in the
French premiere of Thomas Adès’s The Exterminating Angel, a performance
praised by international critics.
Born in Orléans to a blend of French and Romanian heritage, Gloria Tronel
began her musical journey at the Bordeaux Conservatory before earning a
bachelor’s degree in voice at the National University of Music in Bucharest
(2012–2017). She pursued a master’s degree at the Royal Conservatory of
Antwerp, joined the European Opera Academy in Florence, and became a
Young Artist at the Royal Danish Opera in 2020.
In Copenhagen, she was casted in roles such as the Queen of the Night
(postponed due to Covid), understudied Oscar in Verdi’s Un ballo in
maschera, and portrayed Ernestine in Offenbach’s Salon Blumenkohl as well
as Praskowia Osipovna/Soprano Solo in Shostakovich’s The Nose. She also
actively participated in workshops, recitals in the opera house’s foyer, and outdoor concerts for the company.
Additionally, she sang the Queen of the Night in a reduced children’s version at the Maggio Musicale in
Florence, took part in a gala for the King of the Netherlands, performed as Katerina Cavalieri (Amadeus) at
the National Theatre of The Hague and the Royal Danish Opera, and sang Gepopo (Le Grand Macabre) in
a concert version at Neubad Luzern. Her engagements also included performances with the Haydn
Foundation of Bolzano and Trento, as well as the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra. She made her debut as
Norina in Don Pasquale at the Brașov Opera in March 2024.
In the 2024/2025 season, Gloria gave a recital at the Midi Musicaux series at the Bordeaux Opera in October
and performed Glière’s Concerto for Coloratura Soprano at Salle Gaveau in Paris with the Orchestre
Colonne. She is set to return to Bordeaux Opera House for a New Year’s récital, then to Bolzano for Bruno
Maderna’s Satyricon in February 2025, Fauré’s Requiem at the Fondazione Teatri di Piacenza, record the
chamber opera Céline by composer Richard Harvey with the BBC in May, and take part in the World
Premiere of Michel Petrossian’s new opera at Cité Bleue in Geneva.
Gloria Tronel has received numerous awards and invitations. Notably, in the summer of 2023, she won First
Grand Prize at the Manhattan International Music Competition in New York, earning an invitation to perform
at a gala at Carnegie Hall. She also won First Prize at the Festival Mimas singing competition on the island
of Procida. In September 2023, she received the Jessica Pratt Belcanto Prize at the Ottavio Ziino
International Singing Competition in Rome. In October, she triumphed at the Georges Enesco International
Competition in Paris, receiving three distinctions: the Georges Enesco Grand Prize, the Brașov Opera Prize,
and the Orchestre Colonne Prize.
Finally, in October 2024, she was honored with the Éloge Award for Singer of the Year 2024 at the Théâtre
du Châtelet in Paris for her performance as Leticia in Thomas Adès’s The Exterminating Angel at the Paris
Opera.
